It's been a while I haven't tried to push my lighting skills to the most realistic possible.
So I picked an old picture from my trip in Japan with a casual interior scene. The Himeji Castle pictures were perfect because its architecture is very clean, as the materials, but also very demanding in details and precision.
I started to make some research about the castle to remember its layout (and because I couldn't remember which floor it was on my picture xD). Then the next difficulty was to find the right camera position (as I couldn't remember it, neither the angle or the focal...).
Eventually I found the right spot and object disposition so I could have some fun with Lumen and Megascans.
I found almost everything I needed with Megascans, but I modified the legacy shader to add some extra roughness and some of the texture. I also used the Substrate shader, as some materials needed extra controls with the reflections (like the plastic windows).
For the Lighting I started with fake outdoor lights on the windows, then I build the light details starting from these strong lights.
I polished it with some decals on the plaster and the floor, some very small lights for local reflections and a subtle color grading.
Took me a bit less of 3 working days.
